Once upon a time, a dog, a cat, and a mouse were friends…

Keeping their tiny mousey friend, Russell, a secret, Jake the dog and Belle the cat set out for a camping trip with their human at Bay City State Park. There, the animals meet many new friends, including a brave chipmunk, a pet rat, and a cantankerous squirrel.

But, when Russell is injured, Jake and Belle must use every ounce of their ingenuity to “introduce” the deer mouse to their human—and to convince her to accept and help their unconventional friend.

As seen through the eyes of the furry trio, Introducing Russell—a novella for children of all ages—follows Jake, Belle, Russell, and their human as they enjoy a weeklong camping adventure…and become a family.

Description of Content

Using Bay City State Park as the backdrop, Introducing Russell, a fun-to-read, 68-page novella, teaches the values of friendship, acceptance, teamwork, and family. This positive and nurturing story for children of all ages details the fictional adventures of Jake the dog, Belle the cat, Russell the mouse, and their human as they meet new friends, cope with an injury, and become a family. Divided into very short sections, Introducing Russell acquaints young readers with a chaptered book and enables them to complete a longer story at their own pace.

Although geared toward readers aged 9–11, Introducing Russell has also been enjoyed by younger children who listen to the story read aloud and by the adults doing the reading!
